The story of Bits and Pieces

I have always loved music and the opportunity to create it could not be ignored. It started out as a passion for hip hop music and culture that I became involved with at an early age. In the early 90’s met musical soul mate Eleven at a new job and we formed Children of the Fog. Our hopes were to create hip-hop group that transcended race and gender and focused on a conscious message. After spending several years creating with the group and releasing an EP “Underground Fog” and Album “Don’t Quit Your Day Job”, we began to grow tired and wanted to explore other avenues.

That is when I first came up with the idea of producing drum and bass. It was quite by accident. I was working on a drum track for a hip-hop beat and decided to speed up the tempo. After that everything changed, I started exploring different textures and sounds and began creating a whole new genre of music besides hip-hop. I guess you could say it was a happy accident. After that I created several drum and bass tracks and put together my 5 song EP “Underwater Blues”. I then came to realization that an album was in order. That album is “Bits and Pieces”. I named it that because all of the tracks are snapshots of a lot of things I pieced together from all over the place. Half way to completing the album “Bits and Pieces” I decided to change the course and add a more trip hop element by having my partner Eleven sing on some tracks, notably “Jesus Love Me” and “Open Your Heart”.

The other songs on “Bits and Pieces” are a various mixture of sound textures over sparse beats. My hope and goal was to create a record of music that touches on all the styles I enjoy producing. I do believe I succeded in doing just that.

Children Of The Fog

Children of the Fog are the latest hip-hop band to emerge from San Francisco's underground scene. It all began 6 long years ago when Eleven walked in to his first day at work and met LSA. Little did they know that meeting would change their lives? Back in 93 LSA was just finishing up at a local recording school and looking forward to becoming a sound engineer. Meanwhile Eleven bounced around from different crews looking for a group to work with.

Eleven has been writing rhymes since the age of 11, Hence the name. Growing up in true B-Boy fashion he spent time in several local tagging crews and developed his skills as a writer. Feeling somewhat discouraged because no one seemed to take a white emcee seriously he searched for real heads to be down with. Meeting at work both LSA and Eleven sensed they had a lot in common. It was at that point the formed COTF.

Both were tired of hearing Hip Hop become increasingly more materialistic and segmented. They decided to strive to create music that focused on skills and creativity not ego. Joining them on this quest is Truth. Another local emcee that has been in several local bands before joining COTF. He has been writing poetry and rhymes for several years.
Collectively Children of the Fog hope to bring back the art of true hip hop. United they stand to produce rugged rhymes and beats that symbolize hip hop in it's purest form.
